The city's real estate market remains on the upswing in terms of both prices and houses sold, according to B.C. Northern Real Estate Board numbers released Friday.

As of the end of September, 805 single-family homes exchanged hands for an average price of $317,88. That's up by 64 sales and $20,449 by the same point last year.

BCNREB director Leah Mayer said the number of listings has held steady in the face of rising demand, making it a sellers' market.

"There's not a lot of inventory for residential detached homes, there's not a lot on the market," Mayer said.

Sales were most brisk in the city's southwest where 216 single-family homes sold for an average $322,000.

North of the Nechako, 181 sold for a median price of $322,000 while in the west, the count was 229 for $282,000 and east of Central it was 168 for $230,000.

Looking at properties of all types, 1,238 have exchanged hands for $358.5 million in total, compared with 1,158 properties worth $320.6 million the end of the third quarter last year.
