The city is ready to set timelines for a process giving it permission to borrow about $7 million for infrastructure repairs and new vehicles.
On Monday night, city council will be asked to approve the start of the alternative approval process, where residents can petition against the city taking out a loan from the Municipal Finance Authority.
Elector assent is required for any loans with terms longer than five years.
The city wants to borrow $1 million over a 20-year term to make repairs to Foreman Road, widening it to safely have two-way traffic and addressing landslide areas above the CN Rail crossing.
Two more loans worth a combined $6 million are also being considered to replace vehicles in the city's fleet.
Those against the borrowing can fill out and return response forms which should be available no later than Sept. 17 at city hall and on the city's website.
If 10 per cent or more of eligible voters return forms (5,120 people) by Oct. 28 indicating their opposition, council can't authorize applying for the loan unless they get approval via referendum.
