The City of Prince George is getting ready to launch a new website on April 25.

Visitors to the website will be welcomed to an enhanced and attractive design that is geared for easier accessibility options along with many more enhancements.

"We tried to make a site that is informative and engaging," said Rob van Adrichem, director of external relations with the City of Prince George.

"The single most comment we received was that the old site was hard to navigate and that it was difficult to tell what was current and what was not."

In creating the revamped website, a city steering committee collaborated with eSolutions and staff from city departments and divisions to resolve challenges identified prior to the start of the redesign, which began 18 months ago.

The project stayed within a budget of $225,000 and is being launched ahead of the time originally anticipated, van Adrichem said.

The technology behind the website is clean, allows pages to be viewed on any device, including tablets and mobile devices, and is easily accessible to those with visual impairments.

"We wanted users to be able to access the information they want to see quickly and to provide options for them," said van Adrichem.

And for anyone who needs to fill out a form - from park bookings to homeowner grants - they no longer need to print off the page and fill it out physically.

It can all be done online.

There is also new functions facilitating access to bylaws, an upgraded news and notices module that allows residents to receive updates via email.

There are also links to various applications including career opportunities, registering for recreation programs and accessing business information.

"Early in our term, council placed a priority on replacing the City's website to ensure residents have consistent, reliable, organized and timely information at their fingertips," said Mayor Lyn Hall.

"Council hopes that residents and visitors to Prince George enjoy the new site and find that it serves to expand and enhance their experience in our city."

The new website was designed in response to council's focus of reconnecting with the community, enhancing customer service, improving communication, promoting active and healthy living and celebrating success.
