The City deployed two water trucks equipped with fire hoses last week to flush out downtown sidewalks and alleyways.
The early-morning operation saw workers hose out debris from the edges of businesses into the street where it was later collected by City sweepers.
In all, an estimated two cubic metres of material was removed as 3rd Avenue was flushed down both sides of the street from Victoria to Queensway, George Street from 1st Avenue to Fire Hall #1 on 7th Avenue, the west side of Dominion Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, 2nd Avenue from Dominion Street to Quebec Street and the alleyways between George Street and Dominion Street from 3rd Avenue to 2nd Avenue.
It's not the only step being taken, according to the city, as a local social agency has been enlisted to paint over unsightly graffiti.
Staff at the POUNDS Project Society started that work last weekend and are also going door-to-door to downtown businesses offering the service at no cost.

The City has also contracted POUNDS to monitor the washrooms located in Canada Games Plaza across from the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre. They were opened in April for those impacted by the closure of businesses and civic facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As well, crews with Prince George Fire and Rescue Services are continuing to conduct twice-daily patrols of downtown alleys in search of items that may pose a fire risk while also keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.
Another social agency, the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Team, has been contracted to provide daily, and on call, clean up services in downtown alleys.
