The City of Prince George has moved in to speed up the cleaning process at Lombardy Mobile Home Park.
The park was subject to a remedial action order imposed by city council in early July with a July 20 deadline.
Park management asked for reconsideration of the order, but city council held firm to the order requiring Lombardy and individual property owners within the park to demolish 16 trailers and clean up a total of 32 lots.
As of the end of July, more than half of those of those lots were still not brought up to the city's level of satisfaction, but bylaw services manager Fred Crittenden said that as long as progress was being made, the city would allow them to continue their work.
"If at any point it appears that they stop doing that or have not gone as far as we think they should have, at that point we have the ability to go in and take whatever remedial action is left to do," he said.
On Tuesday, city-hired contractors began removing scrap metal frames and two trailer structures from the park.
The work is being paid for by the city, which will then be billed to the owner's property taxes.
The city also stepped in to finish a clean-up order levied on a seemingly abandoned downtown property.
The 525 George St. site was heavily damaged by fire several years ago and was the site of another fire at the end of May.
Remedial orders issued in June to demolish the foundation, remove debris and level the site were completed by the city in mid-July and billed to the property owner.
Another property at 1451 Blackburn Rd. that was handed a clean up order at the same time has since been dealt with by the owner.
A pre-demolition environmental assessment is currently underway for the former laundromat at 231 George St. The owner, Commonwealth Campus Corporation, had asked council for an extension of their Aug. 3 deadline until the end of October, but was turned down by city council last month.
