The City of Prince George is making a bid to host a meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' board of directors in 2018.

On Monday night, city council approved the move to bid on hosting either the March 6-9 or Sept. 11-14, 2018 meeting of the national organization.

If successful, it would mean up to 180 delegates, municipal leaders and guests would be in the city for the three-day meetings.

Hosting the meeting could cost the city up to $20,000, but would bring an estimated $450,000 in economic activity to the city, city administration's report to council said.

"I think it's really an opportunity to spotlight our community," Coun. Murry Krause said.
