City seeking public input on College Heights dog park

An accessible outhouse is opening soon at Ginter's Meadow.

The City of Prince George is seeking public input on a possible fenced off-leash dog park in the College Heights area.

An online survey is seeking input on a potential dog park at Gladstone Park or Latrobe Park. However, city parks manager Sean LeBrun said the city is open to suggestions for an off-leash dog park in College Heights.

“This has been driven by a group of pet owners up in College Heights,” LeBrun said. “We don’t have anything up in College Heights and we have some in the other areas in the city.”

Once the city has gathered public input, a site will be selected and site-specific plan will be prepared, he said. Once a plan and budget have been prepared, the project will need approval from mayor and council, he said.

“The budget will depend on the amount of work that’s needed (and) the amenities that are already in place,” Lebrun said.

The city wants to make sure that any new off-leash area is done right and meets the needs of the community, he added.

Dog walkers and other park users at Ginter’s Meadow, one of the city’s five off-leash dog parks, will have a little welcome relief if they need to go. A fully-accessible outhouse at the park, near the Massey Drive parking lot, is complete and should be open soon, LeBrun said.

“I see it as long overdue,” he said.
