Communities within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George have received a share of this year's provincial fund dedicated to green projects.

B.C.'s Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program hands out conditional grants to communities that signed the Climate Action Charter - which is 96 per cent of them - and supports their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Those that report on their progress toward meeting their climate action goals are eligible to get a grant equivalent to all of the carbon tax they pay.

This year, there was $177,646 for Prince George, $18,709 for the regional district, $3,863 for McBride, $3,581 for Valemount and $32,233 for Mackenzie.

In Prince George, that money gets put into the Carbon Tax Initiative Program reserve fund, which contained $999,250 as of 2014.

In the past, regional district municipalities have reported efforts such as hiring a Waste Smart ambassador to educate the community on water conservation in Valemount, updating the water bylaw to include a requirement for meter installation in new construction projects in McBride and mailing out updated water conservation information with property tax notices in Mackenzie.

A total of $6.4 million was paid out to B.C. communities in 2015.
