Since recently confirming a referendum to rebuild the Four Seasons Leisure Pool and Fire Hall No. 1 last week, Prince George city council wants to spread the word.
The city is reaching out to community groups, clubs and organizations offering reasons to relocate and replace the pool and fire hall as well as details about voting including when and where to vote.
"This council places a high priority upon community feedback and engagement. A major reason we are proposing to keep a rebuilt pool downtown is because during the Aquatics Needs Assessment, we heard through extensive consultation with users of the Four Seasons and residents of Prince George that they greatly favour a downtown location," said Mayor Lyn Hall.
"Council and administration are eager to get out into the community, to communicate our rationale and respond directly to the questions of residents."
Mayor and city council are beginning to make their rounds to present information to a number of service clubs in the community.
Interested groups are asked to fill out a form on the city's website or contact [email protected] or call 250-561-7691 to arrange a presentation.
A new fire hall is estimated to cost $15 million while a new pool will total about $35 million.
With the pool's many leaks, rust stains and accessibility issues, the fire hall too is experiencing issues with limited space for dispatchers and equipment.
The new pool would be located north of the current pool at the Days Inn Motel building, downtown and will include a therapy/toddler pool, a leisure pool with a wading zone, play features and a slide.
Fire Hall No. 1, the city's main fire hall, is to be relocated to a more central location at the south corner of Massey Drive and Carney Street.
According the city, this will expand its eight-minute response zone by 50 per cent.
General voting day is Oct. 28.
Advanced voting will take place on Oct. 18 at city hall and UNBC, Oct. 19 at the College of New Caledonia and on Oct. 24 at city hall. For more information go online to www.princegeorge.ca/referendum.
