City director of planning and development Grant Bain will be leaving his post with the city on March 18.

Bain will be taking an equivalent position with the City of Kingston, Ontario on March 28.

"I've enjoyed by time in Prince George, and its been an excellent home for my wife and I over the last seven and a half years," Bain said. "Leaving wasn't an easy decision, but I know that (the city) is heading in a good direction, which makes it easier."

Bain has been with the City of Prince George since 2003, where he started as the manager of long-range planning. In March, 2008 he took his current position as director of planning and development.

"Both my wife and I are from the Maritimes. Our folks are getting older... and we'd like to be closer to home," he said. "The other thing about Kingston, it's got a lot of heritage. The heritage preservation piece will be part of my role, which I'm really interested in."

City manager Derek Bates couldn't be reached as of press time for comment on what plans the city has to fill the position.
