Applications are now being accepted for a new grant program aimed at boosting winter and summer events.
The city's new Community Celebrations program, approved by city council at the end of August, offers a $30,000 fund to be matched by Tourism Prince George for new and existing festivals and events in July and February.
Applications for grant funding can be made for events with a minimum budget of $5,000.
"Hosting the 2015 Canada Winter Games in February and the summer Centennial Celebrations in July 2015 was an exhilarating experience for our city," said the program's web page. "Community stakeholders really took advantage of the benefits of having their events happen in a collaborative timeframe with other events and it created a city brimming with excitement."
The grant application, due Jan. 29 for July 2016 events, asks organizers to detail how their events contribute to other celebrations and "promote Prince George as a great place to live."
The city is hosting a grant information session on Dec. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the second-floor conference room at City Hall. Session attendees can also learn about the city's Community Enhancement and myPG community grants.
