The City of Prince George is advising residents the Mausoleum will be closed temporarily for expansion construction.
The facility will be closed for four days starting Feb. 1 for flooring and remodeling part of the existing structure to match the expansion, with regular hours returning on Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Cemetery and Mausoleum are open from the same hours each day unless changes or closures are announced otherwise.
The city says the Mausoleum expansion is expected to be open to the public by the end of March.
The 1,200 sq-ft. expansion onto the original facility was approved by council in 2019.
The work includes enhanced safety features including improved lighting, security systems and security windows are also planned to be installed before the expansion section is fully open to the public.
The popularity of cremation has grown in Prince George in recent years and the facility's current 500 niches are all occupied.
The expansion's additional features include an attached building with a shared entranceway and raised timber-frame ceiling which includes 860 new glass and marble front niches.
