There’s a new way for young professionals in Prince George to connect and network.

The City of Prince George has launched a new initiative entitled Young Professionals Network to provide professionals who are new to the city or growing their careers opportunities to connect to others and the community.

“We’ve been hearing from new residents and their employers that there’s a need for more opportunities to make connections in Prince George,” says Christina Doll, the city’s workforce development officer.

“We’re hoping that the Young Professionals Network will provide a starting point for people to build professional and personal connections and will assist local employers in retaining employees they’ve attracted from other communities.”

The suggested age range for those joining the network is 21 to 45 years of age however membership is open to anyone interested in growing their professional and personal networks.

Initially, a minimum of four social and professional development events will be held per year with the possibility of planning more events based on engagement levels.

There is no membership fee to join the network, although there will be registration fees for some events to cover associated costs.

The first event will be a ‘Tunes and Trivia night’ complete with door and trivia prizes held at the Canadian Brewhouse on Friday May 13 between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Development Division and title sponsors MNP and The Canadian Brewhouse will run an ice breaker and the tunes and trivia rounds. An appy party will be included in the cost of the $20 ticket.

Participants will have to register online by Tuesday, May 10.

“We are pleased to support the launch event for the Young Professionals Network of Prince George,” said Jameel Sayani, the Managing Partner for MNP’s Northern BC region.

“As an employer, we see great value in this initiative as it will assist us in retaining the employees we work hard to attract to our company by helping them build professional and personal networks within the community.”

Participants are also encouraged to join the Young Professionals of Prince George Facebook group and LinkedIn group for updates and future event invitations.

"The pandemic has affected everyone in many ways over the last two years. People and their businesses have taken a big hit, but we are now in the final stretch (knock on wood),” said Juan Perez, Regional Manager, The Canadian Brewhouse.

“One of our core values at the Canadian Brewhouse is to support our community. Being a PG local, I love having the opportunity to empower young professionals to reconnect, network, and start brainstorming on ways to move forward and support both our businesses and communities. I hope the event is beneficial not only professionally but also personally, giving people the opportunity to lay back and have some fun in a social setting again.”

The network is intended for people who have lived in Prince George their whole life, or have recently moved to the city, or those who are new to a career, and want a  place to network, make friends or business connections and have fun getting to know one another.
