The City of Prince George's Facebook page has issued a tongue-in-cheek warning to residents about potholes.
The message states that beneath the tranquil waters of every puddle could lie a giant rim-wrecking, big, bad, monster pothole.
Stay out of the water if you can, they warn. There is no lifeguard on duty, they joke.
They provide an animated diagram to indicate how potholes are created, then offer this advice.
Potholes will be around for a while longer because:
1 - They are full of water and we can't fill them when they are full of water
2 - It is too cold outside for our super special pothole filler to stick
3 - Our snow crews are still out moving snow around to clear catch basins and our utilities teams are out steaming the ones that are frozen.
When it gets cold overnight, the water in the puddles will freeze and the hole will be filled. Nice, they add.
The city then talks about how they have a temporary fix for the especially big potholes and will do permanent fixes when it warms up.
Last year, the city filled more than 7,500 potholes. This year won't be any different because of the freeze and thaw.
