Many times, people are looking for a way to get rid of cans and bottles without throwing them in the garbage cans while some are looking for those bottles.
As you may have already seen, the City of Prince George has added roughly 50 recycling style baskets to garbage cans in the downtown core in the past couple of weeks.
"The idea is that the baskets are a convenient way for people to dispose of recyclable items, such as cans and plastic bottles, while also hopefully reducing the number of times people search through the waste bins for these items in order to return them and get the deposits," says Michael Kellett, Communications Officer of the City of Prince George.
He adds when people are searching for bottles in trash cans, it can cause a mess.
The initiative is an effort to help eliminate those messes downtown, save time that staff has to spend cleaning up messes while also reducing the number of recyclable items that can be headed for the landfill.
Kellett adds the city hopes they will help make Prince George an even cleaner and greener city.
