City in line for gas tax money

Local governments will receive twice as much federal gas tax money and get it three months early, Cariboo-Priince George MP Dick Harris said Thursday. The city will get $2.9 million and the regional district will get $657,619.

Local governments will receive twice as much federal gas tax money and get it three months early, Cariboo-Priince George MP Dick Harris said Thursday.

The city will get $2.9 million and the regional district will get $657,619.

"Our government realizes people still need jobs, and this is just another example of how this government is working to create and maintain local jobs and by getting the money to them soon, the towns will be able to take advantage of the spring and summer construction seasons," said Harris in a statement.

Municipalities and regional districts receive a share of the revenue generated from the federal excise tax on fuel through an agreement that will last until 2014.
