City crews will be working this weekend to temporarily fix a section of the traffic circle at the north end of the Cameron Street Bridge after a section of paving stones has lifted.

City superintendent of operations Bill Gaal said city crews had to remove a section of paving stones which had lifted and come loose in the southwest section of the traffic circle.

"It seems to be a soft spot there. We did some geotechnical work to see if there was any issues there, but we couldn't find any," Gaal said.

"[But] obviously there is some moisture there. What happened out there is not because of the paving stones, it's because of the moisture."

Asphalt will be used to temporarily stabilize the section of road, until it dries out enough for the paving stones to be replaced, he said. The total cost of repairs is estimated at under $10,000.

The paving stone portion of the traffic circle is frequently used by heavy trucks in order to make the turn, Gaal said, but it was engineered to accommodate that use. The traffic circle was installed in 2009 as part of the Cameron Street Bridge replacement project.
