Mayor Dan Rogers said he and other members of local government were given a lot of input on who to hire as the new RCMP top cop.

It was their choice as well as that of Mountie management to promote Terrace detachment commander Insp. Eric Stubbs to the position.

"This is the RCMP's hiring process, so they drive the process but we have a good relationship so we are consulted about their decisions," Rogers told The Citizen.

"We were provided the opportunity to interview the candidates they shortlisted, there were five shortlisted candidates this time, and we felt Insp. Stubbs was the best choice. We feel he is the right fit for this community and we respect the RCMP for engaging us in their hiring process.

"It is a big step forward that they are being so proactive with the communities who contract them to do their policing. Certainly Prince George has seen a strong voice develop between the RCMP and local government over the years."
