The city is opening up grants for community-minded ideas that will celebrate the city.

With a plug of helping "get good, local ideas off the ground," the city is accepting submissions from non-profits for both the Community Enhancement Grant (for $200 to $1,000) and Celebrate Prince George Community Grant (minimum request of $5,000)

The two grant programs are open for applications until Oct. 15, with a goal of supporting new events or other efforts to enhance festive occasions, increase visitations to the city or just make a positive impact on Prince George.

"Our community is full of volunteers and non-profit groups with great ideas to encourage and promote health, recreation, well-being, and special events," said city community coordinator, Cheryl Livingstone-Leman in a statement. "These grants can act as the spark that helps a great idea ignite."

For more information visit the city's website or call Community Partnerships at 250-561-7640.

Community Enhancement Grant

The Community Enhancement Grant offers community members an opportunity to improve neighbourhoods, foster civic pride and grow a proud, confident, safe, sustainable, and healthy community. Past recipients include the organizers of Candy Cane Lane, the College Heights Community Association Halloween event, and the 12th Avenue garden project. Grants range from $200 to $1000.

Celebrate Prince George Community Grant

The Celebrate Prince George Community Grant financially supports and assists in the growth and development of new and existing events that occur in July and February during the Celebrate Prince George Winter and Summer Festivals. This grant will support events that create a festive atmosphere, increase visitation, and make a significant and positive impact in the community. The City will consider all applications with a minimum request of $5,000 and can support up to 100 percent of eligible expenses.
