Residents have a chance to ask those running for city council and the mayor's seat where they stand on the issues this month.

The Prince George Citizen is hosting a public all-candidates forum on Thursday Nov. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Convention Centre.

"A community newspaper's top mandate is always to inform," Citizen managing editor Sylvie Paillard said. "It's a crucial aspect of democracy since an informed population is an empowered population. So we're pleased to provide this platform giving voters a chance to decide who they want making the decisions that impact them in such profound ways."

The first half of the forum will feature questions from a panel of the Citizen's leading political reporters and commentators.

On the panel will be Citizen columnist and former B.C. cabinet minister and city councillor Bruce Strachan; Citizen science and political columnist Todd Whitcomb; and Citizen city politics reporter Arthur Williams.

The second half of the forum will allow attendees to put their questions to the candidates.

The candidates

To date, incumbent Mayor Dan Rogers and Coun. Shari Green have announced their intention to run for mayor.

Incumbent city councillors Murry Krause, Cameron Stolz and Brian Skakun will be seeking re-election. Looking to join them on city council will be Jordan Gadsby, Albert Koehler, Harry Ulch, Joanne Dickenson, Scot Affleck, Frank Everitt and Dorothy Friesen.

Longtime city councillor Don Bassermann will not be seeking reelection and city councillors Dave Wilbur, Garth Frizzell and Debora Munoz have not yet announced their intentions.

Longtime Prince George school board trustee and board chairman Lyn Hall is expected to announce his intention to run for city council on Friday.
