Prince George's daily source of printed news won the best all-around award for newspapers with a circulation between 6,500 and 12,499 Thursday night at the Canadian Community Newspapers Association awards gala in Toronto.

The other finalists in that category were the Whistler Question and the Rocky Mountain Outlook.

The Citizen also was selected winner of the best front page award over the two other finalists, the Mission Record and the Nelson Star.

Citizen graphic designer Grace Flack placed second in the Newspaper Marketing and Promotion category (circulation of 25,000 or less) for her work on the Take A Time Out ad campaign, while Citizen circulation manager Alan Ramsay finished third in the same category for organizing the Citizen Reader Rewards Card promotion, which provides our readers discounts from local businesses.

The Citizen also took first place for its fishing guides (Angler's Atlas) and second for the Northern Explorer tourism guide in the best magazine category for small market daily newspapers.

"It's amazing for us to be nationally recognized for our work," said Citizen publisher Colleen Sparrow, who attended Thursday's awards gala in Toronto and picked up the awards on behalf of the Citizen. "It's the enthusiasm and devotion of our staff and management team to put out the best product every day to local residents that makes this all possible."
