Samantha Wright Allen has joined The Citizen's newsroom as a reporter and copy editor.

Samantha hails from Coquitlam and graduated from Simon Fraser University with a bachelor of arts degree in history. This year, she wrapped up her masters degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa.

While at Carleton, she completed a summer reporting internship last year at the Saint John Telegraph-Journal, New Brunswick's largest daily paper, and she just finished an internship at the Ottawa Citizen.

Before joining the Ottawa Citizen this summer, Samantha spent a month in Zimbabwe with a non-governmental agency that works on land resource issues.

Samantha will be primarily covering education and provincial and federal politics, as well as being part of the news team covering next month's municipal elections and the 2015 Canada Winter Games in February.

"One of her editors at the Ottawa Citizen told me she was one of the best newsroom interns they had seen in years," said managing editor Neil Godbout. "Samantha came out on top of a group of impressive candidates that had applied from across the country to join The Citizen."
