Three Fire Halls responded with 15 firefighters ready to tackle the blaze, according to a press release from the fire department.

When crews arrived, they found a smouldering bush that had been on fire outside the front door of the residence.

After investigating, PGFR says the fire appears to have been started by an accidental discard of a cigarette butt into a planter beside the bush.

The fire had been extinguished by a fast-acting neighbour with a garden hose but caused approximately $1,000 in damages.

PGFR checked for any fire extension into the structure but none was found. There was also no one home at the time of the incident and there were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
