St. Andrew's United Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary the first weekend in October with a family fun night on Friday, an open house Saturday afternoon and a special Sunday service.
The home mission church was sponsored by Knox United to outreach to the western area of the community in 1960, so the St. Andrew's settled on the corner of 8th Avenue and Irwin Street.
The church moved to its present location at 5th Avenue and Union Street in 1967, and the congregation continue to boom along with the city, and before long it needed a new wing for Sunday school classes.
The church is welcoming anyone who was every married, baptized, went to Sunday school or attended any services to join them in celebration.
