In an effort to be digitally inclusive, Chromebooks have been added to the list of what people can borrow from the Prince George Public Library.

Eight Chromebooks are available at the downtown Bob Harkins branch and two are available at the Nechako Branch in the Hart, which can be borrowed for up to a week at a time.

Chromebooks are lightweight laptops designed for simplicity and ease of use, particularly for online tasks such as web browsing, email, document editing, video conferencing, and more.

With a focus on web apps and cloud services, Chromebooks offer a straightforward solution for individuals without access to personal online devices.

Patrons can easily request a Chromebook at any library service desk or conveniently place a hold through the library catalogue available at www.pgpl.ca.

"Those without access to online devices are often left behind in our increasingly online world,” Chris Field, manager of collections and technology, said.

“Making Chromebooks freely available to borrow levels the playing field so that all members of our community can meet their education, recreation, and information needs."

A library card is needed to borrow a Chromebook. Library cards are available for free to all Prince George residents and for most residents of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. To get a library card, complete and submit an online application form (available at www.pgpl.ca/cards/application), or apply in person and present your ID with your current address. Examples of preferred ID include a valid driver’s licence, or any piece of personal identification combined with proof of address such as a piece of mail with your name and address.
