Eastbound lane of Highway 16 West is closed at Blackwater Road when it was reported at about 8 am Wednesday that a chip truck tires were on fire.
Prince George Fire Rescue responded and quickly knocked down the fire but stayed on scene to make sure the chips in the trailer were doused as well.
There were no injuries.
There is currently a detour at Jenson Road to avoid the Highway closure for those heading into town.
