A portion of Highway 16 West was closed for part of Monday morning after a chip truck went up in flames about one kilometre east of Bednesti.
The driver escaped without injury when the truck caught fire at about 2 a.m. but the highway was closed until about 9 a.m. and remained reduced to single-lane alternating traffic as of 4:30 p.m. Monday.
"The truck is outside the fire district area and no fire department responded," Prince George RCMP Staff Sgt. Tom Bethune said in a press release.
Cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
WorkSafeBC spokesperson Donna Freeman said an investigator is following up but added motor vehicle incidents on public highways are generally investigate by the police.
"We may or may not have a role." Freeman said.
