We sent a delegation to China, and now they are sending a delegation to Prince George.

"The City of Prince George will be hosting an inbound delegation from Jiangmen, China on (Sunday and Monday)," announced mayor Dan Rogers on Thursday.

After meeting with Prince George officials in September, the delegation adjusted their October North American tour to include a visit to Prince George where they will explore transportation and logistics, tourism, economic development, cultural, and educational opportunities.

"Our community has been engaging Chinese government and business officials for quite some time and we began to build a solid relationship in Jiangmen last month," said Rogers. "It will be extremely valuable for us to use this as an opportunity to strengthen that relationship while also showing the delegation the many opportunities that exist in Prince George and northern British Columbia."

Last month, the City of Prince George, University of Northern British Columbia, Lheidli T'enneh First Nation and other business stakeholders from northern B.C. visited China together. Part of that trade mission was to pursue a twinning relationship with the City of Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China.

This initiative was funded through a grant from the Province of British Columbia, provided to Prince George as part of a Memorandum of Agreement on Local Government Twinning, signed in 2008.
