Researchers are looking to interview children who have experienced grief or loss as well as clinicians who work with them.

Research underway through the University of Northern British Columbia and the University of Calgary is looking to study children’s spirituality and trauma, grief and loss.

The researchers, Heather M. Boynton and Indrani Margolin, along with their research team, are looking to interview eight- to 12-year-old children who have experienced some type of trauma, grief or loss as well as clinicians who work with this population.

Examples include children who have experienced an accident, illness, death of someone close, divorce, etc.

The findings of the study can help to build theory on spirituality for children and spiritual development, as well as identifying best practices for supporting children and their families.

Researcher are looking to recruit 20 children to participate in the focus group, with their parents attending to offer clarification if needed.

All child participants will receive an honorarium of a $25 gift card in gratitude for their contribution.

Researchers are also looking to speak with approximately six clinicians to learn from their experiences with spirituality in working with children and their experiences of trauma, grief or loss.

Clinicians will receive a $10 gift card for their participation.

Anyone interested in participating in the study can contact Dr. Heather M. Boynton at Hmboynto@ucalgary.ca.
