A Chetwynd woman died in a two-vehicle collision Thursday on Highway 97 just outside the small community 306 kilometres north of Prince George.

RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said the northbound Cadillac the woman was driving crossed the centreline and hit an oncoming Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a travel trailer and died at the scene.

The woman was the Cadillac's lone occupant while a family of four from Taylor, just south of Fort St. John, was in the truck.

Saunderson said the parents received serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and their two children, both under age 10, escaped injury, but the family's dog was killed in the impact.

Police were called to the scene at about 11:30 a.m. and the stretch remained closed to traffic for about nine hours. As of Friday morning, no cause had been determined.

The woman's name was not yet released pending notification of the next of kin.
