We have been dealing with news agencies all day Thursday trying to clarify that Cheslatta is an area and is not our nation. This horrific story has caused a lot of grief for our members, as they were getting calls asking which Cheslatta Carrier Nation members were abusing animals.
Please be clear that this individual is non-native and is not associated with the Cheslatta Carrier Nation.
In fact, no Cheslatta members even live in the community of Cheslatta, which is a rural area south of Takysie Lake. For your information, there are many community areas on the south side, including Southbank, Danskin, Uncha, Grassy Plains, Tatalrose, Cheslatta, Ootsa Lake, Wistaria, East Ootsa and Marilla.
