"Our community is better because you're in it."
"Thanks for inspiring me to be a better person."
"I'm so grateful you fixed that thing I broke."
These are just a few of the messages residents and staff at the Prince George Chateau wish to express on Gratitude Day on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to all those who have helped them and continue to do so.
"This is a VIP coffee break," said Paul Robison, hospitality director at the Chateau, located at 4377 Hill Ave. "We'd like to thank our local heroes, like first responders, including fire, police, paramedics, even our own Rocky Mountain Rangers, by providing a drive thru with complimentary coffee, muffins or cookies and a free Prince George Citizen newspaper."
Chateau staff and residents chose to acknowledge first responders during Gratitude Day.
"We decided to pick our 911 responders and primarily we made that choice because we are a seniors community and the first responders are a strong component in their lives, knowing that the first responders are close by and how we all appreciate the great work that they do and this is just a small way of saying thank you," said Robison.
During the summer, the Chateau has Sundae Sundays and it just happened to be a Sunday when the local fire hall decided to do a safety inspection.
"So the firemen were invited in and it was like they were rock stars - that's the kind of reception they received from our residents - and they gathered around and had some ice cream and chatted with our seniors and it was really kind of special," said Robison.
The invitation to attend the VIP coffee break has also been extended to the mayor, city council, MLAs and MPs, Highway Search and Rescue and emergency department staff at the hospital, added Robison. There will also be an outreach portion of Gratitude Day as Chateau representatives go up to the Northern Sport Centre after the Baby Boomers' class as seniors show gratitude to seniors with special gratitude message cards and bracelets.
