Charges approved following drug search warrant

Federal Crown counsel has approved charges of trafficking against two people after Prince George RCMP executed a search warrant Wednesday afternoon on a motel room the the 1500 block of Victoria Street.

Federal Crown counsel has approved charges of trafficking against two people after Prince George RCMP executed a search warrant Wednesday afternoon on a motel room the the 1500 block of Victoria Street.

Steven Lenard Abela, 56, and Darlene Joseph, 44, were arrested and a quantity of cocaine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia was seized, police said.

Both are from Prince George and are well known to police. Abela has been the subject of more than 40 Prince George RCMP investigations since October 2007, most of them drug related, police said.

His most recent conviction was for trafficking. In July 2010, he was sentenced to six months in jail for a June 2009 incident. Joseph's most recent conviction was for theft $5,000 or under, for which she received one year probation with a suspended sentence in May 2011.
