Crown counsel has approved nine charges against a man as a result of an incident on Friday night that, according to police, began at a local nightclub and ended with the seizure of an assault rifle.
Alain Marcel Perreault, 29, has been charged with mischief, assault, uttering threats, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence, careless use or storage of a firearm, use of a firearm in an offence, driving while impaired and driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08.
RCMP had been called to the scene to deal with a disturbance that had escalated into a dispute between a man and a woman.
The man had fled the scene by the time RCMP had arrived but he was later found on PG Pulpmill Road and was taken into custody.
A subsequent search with the help of a police dog led to the seizure of an SKS, a semiautomatic assault rifle, as well as ammunition and two prohibited SKS magazines.
Perreault was released on $5,000 bail on Monday.
