A 65-year-old man is in custody following an attempted armed robbery of a Prince George business Tuesday morning in which a shot was allegedly fired.

Crown counsel has approved a charge of using a firearm in the commission of an offence against Robert Thomas Taylor, who remained in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to a business in the 100 block of Kingston Avenue in the Queensway light industrial area shortly after 8:30 a.m.

They were told a lone man carrying a rifle entered the business and demanded cash. He fired one shot into a wall and fled in a pick-up truck without taking anything of value, Prince George RCMP said.

A suspect matching the description given to police was arrested about six hours later at an East Perry Road home.

Thomas does not have a criminal record, court records indicate.
