An update to the rules of local elections should be ready by the time the next municipal polls open. The next election of city councils, school boards and regional districts is scheduled for November, 2011.
Quesnel mayor Mary Sjostrom and 100 Mile House-based MLA Donna Barnett were two members of the six-person team who studied the issue. Their task force made 31 recommendations to the provincial government, and the provincial government has now announced that they will go ahead and draw legislation to implement all 31, although there is still time for outside input to influence how that legislation is worded.
