With the weather forecast calling for heavy rain over much of the province this weekend, drivers are urged to be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.

"For your own safety and everyone's on the road, please slow down," the Ministry of Transportation said in a press release issued Friday.

Drivers are encouraged to plan their route ahead, slow down and use extra caution as heavy rain following long periods of dry, hot weather can lead to slippery conditions.

"It's important that motorists reduce speeds when roads are wet, use caution and drive according to conditions, which can change quickly," the ministry said.

Road conditions can be accessed toll free at 1-800-550-4997, or by visiting www.drivebc.ca, which provides images from over 500 web-cameras around the province.
