A veterinarian faced a long night after a cattle transport struck a moose and rolled into a ditch on Highway 16 east of Prince George last Monday.
In all, nine died in the collision and another 30 head had to be euthanized, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed.
A further dozen survived and another two got away following the collision at about 6:30 p.m., according to North District RCMP.
"All of the animals killed or euthanized have been sent for rendering and will not enter the food chain," a CFIA spokesperson said.
