Carrier Sekani calls for inquiry into Pickton murder cases

The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council has joined the chorus of voices demanding a public inquiry into the Robert "Willy" Pickton murder cases.

The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council has joined the chorus of voices demanding a public inquiry into the Robert "Willy" Pickton murder cases.

Pickton was sentenced to life with no chance of parole for six murders while Crown decided against proceeding to trial on 20 more after the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the original convictions.

Evidence of Jackie Murdock, a Takla First Nation member who went missing from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside in 1996, was allegedly found on Pickton's farm. She leaves behind five children in care of her extended family.

"I'm sure Jackie's extended family and children need to know if her murder could have been prevented," said Carrier Sekani Tribal Council vice chief Terry Teegee in a statement issued Thursday.
