Vanderhoof teacher Gerald Caron has stepped out of the race to become the federal Conservative party's candidate in Cariboo-Prince George.

Instead, he is now seeking the position in neighbouring Skeena-Bulkley Valley.

A major consideration in the decision was Caron's "strong connections with the riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley, having worked in Fort St. James, and in Burns Lake, for School District 91," according to a press release.

New Democrat Nathan Cullen is Skeena-Bulkley Valley's longtime Member of Parliament.

Caron's move reduces the number of candidates in Cariboo-Prince George to four: Todd Doherty, Nick Fedorkiw, Shari Green, and T.J. Grewal.
