Williams Lake RCMP are investigating the discovery of human remains found "in a heavily wooded area several kilometres to the north of the Esler area. Severly decomposed human remains were located late [Wednesday] afternoon by a mountain biker," said the Cariboo city's commander, Staff Sgt. Warren Brown.

The identity of the deceased person was not readily known, nor was the age, gender (there are early hints that it is a male) or ethnicity. A full investigation is underway involving the Williams Lake RCMP's Serious Crimes Section, acting on behalf of the BC Coroners' Service.

"It is possible that the deceased may have been present at this location for a number of years," said Brown. "At this time, no foul play is suspected."

An autopsy has been ordered and the region's list of missing persons will be cross-referenced with the clues already available.
