More than 300 people and their furry friends turned out Sunday morning for a dose of exercise and charity.
Prince George animal lovers helped the North Cariboo branch of the SPCA to exceed their $30,000 fundraising goal for the annual Pause for a Cause walk.
The Cottonwood Island Park-based event was one of 31 such events being held around the province with the aim of raising $1 million for B.C. SPCA programs.
"I thank everybody for coming out and supporting it, and I hope to see everyone next year," said Prince George branch manager Angela McLaren.
There was an increase in registered participants this year, McLaren said.
"The whole aim is to fight to end animal cruelty," she said, noting the event typically draws people who have adopted their pets from the SPCA or already make donations.
And with most fundraisers an opportunity for people to come out and socialize, it's Paws for a Cause is a good opportunity to attend with the animals that usually get left at home.
SPCA staff, who teamed up as North Cariboo Dawgie Style brought in the most funds, but the Telus Pawsitivity team topped the leaderboard for non-SPCA employees.
The top individual 2014 fundraiser was Sheri Grantham who brought about $4,000, while Izabella Roderick was the top youth fundraiser with about $1,200. Roderick, who was also the top youth fundraiser for the event last year, was awarded a BMX from Koops Bike Shop for her efforts.
