Canfor chief executive officer Jim Shepard gave a decidedly upbeat account of what lies ahead for B.C.'s forest products industry when he spoke to chamber of commerce members Tuesday, crediting the sector's ongoing turnaround to China, a country he called "the U.S. on steroids."
After years of tracking the downward progression of the U.S. housing market, in 2007 lumber prices started to "disengage" and followed a new, upward slope, "and that's what we call the China effect," Shepard said.
