The Kordyban Lodge will begin accepting guests in March, but the Canadian Cancer Society has yet to nail down an official opening date.
The facility, which will house out of town patients receiving treatment at the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North, was beset by some construction delays in the fall and will open about six weeks later than anticipated. It will begin accepting reservations, however, on Feb. 11.
Canadian Cancer Society regional director Margaret Jones-Bricker said she hopes to firm up the official opening date by the middle of next week.
"Construction will be complete and commissioning will be complete [by March]," she said.
Plans are already in the works for a ribbon-cutting event at the grand opening and there will be an open house for the public to tour the facility in the days leading up to the arrival of the first guests.
Once open, the facility will house guest rooms, a library, a wigs and prosthetics room and an activity room for cancer patients and their caregivers.
Originally slated to open on Jan. 13, the facility was delayed when one of the sub-contractors working on the building went bankrupt and the main contractor had to find a new company to do the work. The cancer centre opened in November and the cancer society has been helping out of town patients find alternate accommodation.
The cancer society is expected to move its offices into the Kordyban Lodge next month.
