Exciting news.

After the NDP’s 57 years fighting for dental care to be included in the Canada Health Care Act, Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is available as of Wednesday, May 1.

The first group of clients eligible for the Canada Dental Care Program (CDCP) can visit a dentist or oral health provider.

If you have registered for the CDCP and received your welcome package from Sun Life, you should have been notified of the date you can begin seeing a dentist or oral health provider. If you registered over the phone but haven't received your welcome package, please contact the CDCP Call Centre directly at 1-833-537-4342 to check your application status.

Seniors aged 70 and above who missed the early phone registration can now register online. Additionally, as of May 1, seniors aged 65 to 69 can register online.

Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate and children under 18 can begin online registration on June 1. All other eligible Canadian residents can register starting in 2025.

For CDCP online registration, you can visit the Canadian government's website.

Services covered: The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will cover a wide range of oral health care services aimed at maintaining teeth and gum health and preventing and treating oral health issues and diseases. Some services will require preauthorization, a process where prior approval is needed based on the oral health provider's recommendation before treatment is provided to confirm coverage under the plan. Services requiring preauthorization will be available starting November 2024.

Coverage amount: The CDCP will reimburse a percentage of the cost based on established CDCP fees and your adjusted family net income.

You may have to pay additional charges directly to the oral health provider if:

  • Your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $89,999 (co-payment chart available online)
  • The cost of your oral health care services exceeds established CDCP fees
  • You and your oral health care provider agree to services not covered by the CDCP.
