John Warner graduated from high school in 1952 and he isn't ashamed to say it.
As one of the organizers for the Prince George Pre-1950 School Reunion, he hopes that more people who graduated from the city or its surrounding areas will come together and celebrate the
educational history of Prince George.
Warner is quick to say that it doesn't matter if someone graduated from Giscome, South Fort George, King George V, PGJS High or any other school -
everyone is welcome.
The two-day celebration will take place July 21 to 22.
On the 21st, there will be
dinner and a chance for everyone to catch up with their old schoolmates. The dinner takes place at Columbus Community Centre and tickets are $40 per person.
"The reunion has been happening every five years for quite a few years. [The cutoff] was originally 1948 and they pushed it to 1950," said Warner.
"We bring in people from far and wide. The last time we held the reunion, we had people from as far away as England attend.
"My wife and I hosted some friends that we all knew from high school. Two of my wife's girlfriends that were here, who hadn't seen each other in 50 years. They were really good friends in school and they worked together once they got out of school and then went to Europe together and spent time over there and then they went their own separate ways and hadn't seen each other since."
The last reunion saw 275 people in attendance. The organizers expect to go down a little bit but are still prepared to host up to
250 people.
They have 100 tickets sold
already.
Warner originally came to P.G. in 1939 because of the Second World War and his dad was an unemployed printer who went to work at the Prince George Citizen.
"The numbers are going down because we are all getting long in the tooth.
