A City of Prince George bylaw officer was involved in a fight when the man he was attending to turned violent, according to the police report following the incident. Mounties were called to intervene.

The reason for the bylaw officer's attendance at the residence was not disclosed. It happened in the 4400 block of Greenwood Street just after 11 a.m.

"Investigators believe that the by-law officer attended the property during the course of his duties," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.

"After knocking on the door, the officer was confronted by an adult male in an aggressive manner. The male began to shout, which eventually led to assaulting the officer. A scuffle ensued."

Both men sustained minor injuries in the altercation. No one else was involved in the scuffle, but an adult female was also present in the residence.

"The resident and an adult female on the property were not very co-operative with police and refused to provide statements," said Douglass. "A statement was obtained from the by-law officer."

The city's enforcement representatives are professional peace officers. As a result, the 47-year-old resident was arrested for obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer. He has a court date set for September.
