Who doesn't like ice cream while also supporting a good cause at the same time?

On Aug. 8, Dairy Queen's Miracle Treat Day will take place, with net proceeds from all blizzard sales supporting the B.C. Children's Hospital.

A Prince George resident and B.C. Children's Hospital patient, James (last name withheld), will be at the participating Prince George location (1924 Third Ave.) to make some ice cream treats while also telling customers how Miracle Treat Day helps kids like him.

“Over 93,000 kids in B.C. receive care from B.C. Children’s Hospital each year, and the community donations we receive are critical to helping provide the best health care imaginable for these children,” Maria Faccio, vice-president of philanthropy at the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation says in a news release. “We are immensely grateful for the generous support we receive from Dairy Queen and the British Columbians who make Miracle Treat Day possible.”

Last year, more than $460,000 was raised for the Vancouver-based hospital. Over previous years, the restaurant has donated $7.1 million from Miracle Treat Day sales.

“At Dairy Queen Canada, we see our role as serving communities, whether that’s providing families a place to make memories and enjoy a treat in the summer, or through our partnership with Children’s Miracle Network,” Candida Ness, senior director of marketing for Dairy Queen Canada adds in the release. “We are so proud of our ability to support Miracle Treat Day and we’re grateful for the tireless work that our franchisees do year-round to make this happen.”

The hospital is the only one in B.C. dedicated exclusively to children's care.
