Did you know parents do not have to send children to kindergarten if they choose not to?
According to the School Act, any parent can defer the enrolment of their child for one year, said an official spokesperson from the B.C. Ministry of Education.
"In the school year when a child turns six, that child must be enroled in a public, or independent school, or registered as a home-schooled student."
"Not to do so would be considered an offence, but it's more likely it would trigger an investigation to determine whether that child is being properly cared for. We have very few cases of that," said the spokesperson.
