Bulk Barn takes break for a cause

It's usually frustrating to walk into a retail store and find out all the staff are on a coffee break - but in the case of the Prince George Bulk Barn location, it's for a good cause.

Bulk Barn locations across Canada are participating in the Alzheimer Coffee Break fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society of Canada until Sept. 21. For a one dollar donation, shoppers can put their name on a coffee cup decal which will be displayed in the store. All money raised will go to support local branches of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

"Our goal [as a company] is to raise more than they did last year," local Bulk Barn supervisor Liz Burt said. "They raised over $275,000 last year."

Burt said although the store in Prince George is new, they're hoping to be the top fundraiser this year. Response has already been strong, she said, with $80 raised on Friday -the first day of the fundraiser.

All donations made at Bulk Barn locations on Sept. 21, World Alzheimer Day, will be matched by the company.

The Alzheimer Society of Canada provides resources, information and support for people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Currently there are 747,000 Canadians who suffer from Alzheimer's disease or related conditions, according to the society.
